A-06 - Alternatives for Families: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AF-CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AF-CBT) is an abuse-focused family therapy that works with families from all ethnic, social and economic backgrounds. The initial focus of AF-CBT is to assess family needs, acknowledge the stressors and integrate cultural concerns as presented. Therapy components encourage personal reflection, promote individual growth and equip family members with the necessary tools to address and resolve family conflicts as a unit. There are no judgements when a family enters into therapy but rather an opportunity to learn with and from the family and implement strategies necessary to improve communication and problem-solving skills. This presentation will include family needs related to language, ethnic background and religious practices and demonstrate how cross-cultural interactions tend to enrich the application of the therapy.
