D-08 - Adapting Practice for Parents with Physical, Medical, Vision, or Intellectual Disabilities and their Children

The workshop will draw from 36 years of Through the Looking Glass’ unique intervention and research experience with diverse parents with physical, medical, vision and intellectual disability and their children from infancy to young adulthood. Social barriers, public policy issues, and parenting evaluations of parents with disabilities in custody situations will be discussed. However, the emphasis will be on adapting practice for parents with disabilities and their children as illustrated with video and clinical vignettes: parenting adaptations for parents with physical, medical and vision disabilities, adapting communication and intervention for parents with intellectual/cognitive disabilities.
