D-11 - Cancelled - Interviewing the Reluctant Child   Intermediate

Medical/Forensic Interviewing   Law Enforcement   Legal   Child Abuse (Physical/Sexual)

Interviewers can become frustrated when a child is reluctant to disclose, especially when there is strong evidence indicating abuse, and that frustration can result in abandoning best practices. No matter how skilled or experienced the interviewer, there are no “magic words” or methods that will overcome reluctance in every case, since some causes of reluctance are within the interviewer’s control, while many are not. This workshop will discuss the research regarding reluctant children, and interview practices and modifications that may help elicit legally defensible disclosures from a larger number of reluctant children.
