E-04 - Communicating and Interviewing Individuals with Disabilities   Intermediate


Individuals with disabilities are at high risk for abuse and exploitation. Increasing knowledge and skill set is the focus of the workshop. This workshop will cover the following topics: the most common kinds of developmental disabilities, the concept of person-first language, how to keep cultural and physical considerations in mind when interviewing or communicating with persons with disabilities, and concrete interviewing techniques.

Learning Objectives:
1. Identify the most common developmental disabilities and learn how to research information about others that we are less likely to encounter.
2. Understand the concept of person first language.
3. Learn interviewing techniques and strategies to improve communication skills and improve investigation outcomes.
